CRIMINAL CASES

FEES

Jon Gutmacher was a Board Certified Criminal Trial Attorney for five years, and has been practicing criminal law since 1973.

Federal court cases: Although Mr. Gutmacher is a member of the federal bar in both the Southern and Middle Districts of Florida, he generally will not take any federal cases other than firearms related matters.
State court cases: On the other hand, Mr. Gutmacher will handle any felony case in Florida state courts, and is willing to travel to almost any area of the state to represent clients. He generally does not handle misdemeanor cases, as the minimum fees we charge do not generally justify his involvement.

Mr. Gutmacher requires an upfront payment (called a "retainer") to engage his services in a criminal case. The retainer is not less than $2,500.00. Our minimum fee for a case that goes to trial is $5,000.00, which includes the retainer. Fees may be considerably higher than these amounts, but the least we accept as a retainer is $2,500.00, and the least we charge for a trial is $5,000.00.

Fees are generally structured depending on the expected degree of difficulty, outside expertise required, possible travel, and estimated time involved. We make a full-time commitment to clients, and expect them to do the same with us. We are not in the loan business, nor are we in a position to worry about whether the fee will be paid, or not. We can generally extend a client a period of up to thirty (30) days to come up with the final fee (after the retainer is paid), but that is generally the best we can do.
